The rumours surrounding Antonio Conte had a big turnaround in the past week.
Following the takeover at Newcastle United, the Italian manager had been pointed out as one of the candidates to take charge at St. James’ Park. Then with doubt growing at Manchester United, at least according to some in the media, the rumours about an Old Trafford move took place.
Gazzetta Dello Sport now features a story on the manager’s future. And as they say Conte could soon join the Red Devils, they also bring a slant on why he’d turn down the chance to work at the Magpies.
Their report talks about the risk of taking charge of Newcastle United in the position the club is now. It’s claimed the possibility could be ‘a way to jeopardise years and years of success’.
Gazzetta recalls that Conte has taken risky jobs early in his career, but since his success with Juventus, he’s been in a position where he can choose the jobs he takes and set the cards on the table.
Despite the new ownership at Newcastle guaranteeing heavy investment for the upcoming seasons, that won’t be a short-term plan. Even with all the signings the club may make, the outlet describes the situation as ‘an excellent album available but with too many stickers to glue’.
To put an end to this possibility, it’s said that the risk would be so big that even staying at Inter Milan following the summer departures of Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku would have been better than that.
