Ternana manager Fabio Liverani believes his forward Felipe Avenatti isn’t ready for a move to Serie A this summer. The 23-year-old will be out of contract at the end of the season, and has also been linked with a move to Leeds United.

TMW have reported on comments Liverani made when asked about Avenatti joining a club from the Italian top flight.

The Ternana coach said the Uruguayan has potential, but due to Avenatti’s age, liverani doesn’t feel he’s ready to make the next step.

“Avenatti is a good prospect and young, but I do not feel he’s ready for Serie A and especially with Lazio given the rumours of a possible move,” said the Ternana boss.

In January it was reported Avenatti would see out his contract with Ternana, which will likely lead to a scramble to sign the South American in the summer.

Leeds United could be one of the clubs looking to snap the player up after their previous attempts to sign him. Garry Monk’s club made another approach for Avenatti in the last summer window, but were again unsuccessful.

Leeds United face competition to sign Avenatti, and it will take some convincing to bring the player to England over a move to Serie A, with Cagliari and Lazio both showing an interest.
