Having his dad as Netherlands manager won’t help Daley Blind get into the Netherlands midfield. Speaking to the Dutch media Danny Blind has made it very clear he doesn’t see the Manchester United player as one of his main midfield options, given that he hasn’t played there for a while.
On the other hand, Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum stands a much better chance of getting the spot vacated for this international break by Kevin Strootman.
Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf quote Blind as saying: “Daley can play there only in case of emergency because he had a year not playing at that position.”
If not Daley Blind, Danny Blind was asked his options, and explained: “That’s Stijn Schaars, Jordy Clasie and Georginio Wijnaldum. Georginio plays the last time in that role for me but also for his club Liverpool.”
At the Fenerbahce match, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho made it clear he doesn’t see Blind as a central defender, rather a left back filling in there. Between Jose Mourinho and Danny Blind, Daley Blind seems to have been rebranded again as a left back.
Wijnaldum has made 12 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool so far this season, and faces a repeated battle to get in, and stay in, the team.
