Benfica’s clash against Arsenal is one of the biggest ties in the Europa League’s next stage, and it’s no surprise the draw is getting big coverage in Portugal.
The local media started by explaining the Gunners aren’t in the best form, and even took some previous clashes with the Eagles to show the Lisbon side have a chance to get through.
For the past few days, several reports in Portugal have also been claiming Mikel Arteta’s job is in danger, and they now bring all the possible news on the manager’s situation.
This confidence seems to be coming from Benfica as well. As manager Jorge Jesus spoke to the local media last night, he talked a little about the Europa League draw, and insisted he’s not very worried about it.
“I have the greatest respect for Arsenal, but it doesn’t take away my sleep or confidence. We keep the power to get through this tie, we have the ability to do so, even though we know we will find a strong opponent,” said Jorge Jesus (via Record).
“We cannot be concerned about this. If we don’t have the capacity to beat Arsenal, we don’t have the capacity to reach the Europa League final either.
“Before the draws, nobody knows what could happen, but I felt that Benfica would find a strong team. When I’m in the Champions League or Europa League, I always get strong teams. Me and the club where I am.”
Benfica and Arsenal first face each other in Lisbon on the 18th of February. The second leg is played in London a week later, on the 25th.
