Following Frank Lampard’s departure from Chelsea this morning, there was an open route for rumours regarding his replacement at the club.
Despite the strongest stories saying Thomas Tuchel was the favourite for the position, the Italian press was quick claiming that the Blues have contacted Massimiliano Allegri as well.
The talks, handled by his representative Giovanni Branchini, were said to be positive. It’s claimed that Chelsea want to continue having Italian managers, and the coach is also working to improve his English.
However, Calcio Mercato reported two issues. First, Chelsea’s option for Tuchel, and also Allegri’s wish to take charge of Roma.
That’s pretty much the information they have in their text, claiming there could already be a deal for Allegri to take charge of Roma. It’s said he’s close to agreeing a €5m million contract with the Giallorossi.
In their headline, Calcio Mercato highlights that the manager said ‘no’ to Chelsea and Napoli, and even uses the word ‘rejected’ when tweeting their story in English.
