Yes, even after a rather strong victory against arch-rivals Tottenham, we are blessed (read sarcasm) with stories involving the replacement of Mikel Arteta.

This time, they come from Italy, with Calciomercato.it revealing that Maurizio Sarri, once a manager at Chelsea, is a potential candidate to take over from the Spaniard at the Emirates.

We all know you’ve already groaned by now, but let us point out that even the Italian website are aware that the win against Spurs will have somewhat ‘strengthened’ Arteta’s position at the club, yet one win doesn’t turn everything around.

It’s revealed that Sarri ‘had already been probed by the London club’ in the past, who ‘declined for this season’, having just been removed by Juventus and replaced by Andrea Pirlo.

However, Calciomercato.it state that ‘if the English management were to decide to move on from Arteta’, the former Napoli man’s name ‘remains among the very first on the list’, before adding ‘the Tuscan coach wouldn’t mind a new experience in the Premier League at all’.

That’s good news for Arsenal should they decide to move on from their current manager, but they would also face competition from his ex-club in Naples, AS Roma and Milan.
