Denmark manager Brian Riemer is closely watching Chido Obi-Martin’s rapid development at Manchester United.

The former Anderlecht manager analysed the 17-year-old’s rise at Manchester United for Viaplay and Tipsbladet have relayed his comments.

Obi-Martin joined Manchester United in September 2024 after his contract at Arsenal had expired.

The striker started with Manchester United’s U18 and U21s before getting an opportunity to represent the senior team earlier this month.

He made his first team debut in the Red Devils’ league defeat to Tottenham Hotspur and also came off the bench in the 2-2 draw against Everton.

Denmark appointed Riemer as their manager in October, a month after Anderlecht showed him the exit door. He didn’t call up the rising Manchester United youngster for November’s international break and hasn’t held talks with him just yet.

Obi-Martin has represented Denmark’s youth teams but is yet to make an appearance for the senior team.

He’s also eligible to play for Nigeria and Riemer can avoid this scenario by fasttracking him to his squad. However, the national team manager isn’t in favour of this.

“Can I start by saying that I really think we’re telling a fantastic story here,” he said.

“Think about how many times we’ve sat with a Danish national team and said: ‘We’re short of players, when will we get some strikers?’ We have so many young players, some of them may be just young enough to break through, but it’s great that we have so many knocking on the door, I think that’s important to say.”

“Chido is a player who has played for our U18 national team, so if anything, it’s gone even stronger, so I think you have to say that in order to follow the right business procedures, we have to make sure we do it the right way.”
