Janne Andersson has made fun of Andreas Granqvist after the Sweden captain was last night replaced by Leeds United star Pontus Jansson.
The Leeds United defender came on as a half time substitute for Granqvist with Portugal winning 2-0, but Sweden managed to turn it around and defeat the European champions.
LT.se have reported on comments Andersson made after Sweden’s 3-2 victory, when he was asked about Jansson replacing Granqvist.
The Sweden manger jokingly said when his captain was brought off they were able to go on and win the game. Andersson doesn’t think it was a major change, but they have poked fun at Granqvist after his inspired substitution.
“We replaced Granqvist which turned it around for us. We didn’t make any major changes, but it was fun to tease him,” said the Swedish coach.
Jansson has recently started to established himself in the Sweden team. The Leeds United player has always been part of Andersson’s squads, but it’s only in the past four games he’s begun to get more playing time.
The 25-year-old started last Friday’s World Cup Qualifier against Belarus, and last night was given a 45 minute run out. With Granqvist not getting any younger the Leeds United defender is seen as a possible successor for the 37-year-old, and an ideal partner for Benfica star Victor Lindelöf.
