You know we always say the transfer window is full of surprises? Well, here’s another one for you.
Just days after Gaston Ramirez’s agent told El Desmarque that his client’s transfer from Middlesbrough to Real Betis was ‘basically done’, the latest news is that the Uruguayan forward might not be heading to Seville after all.
Why? Apparently it’s Claudio Ranieri’s fault.
According to Estadio Deportivo, Nantes have come along and offered the 26-year-old better financial terms than their Spanish counterparts, and have turned his head.
That doesn’t mean that a deal with Real Betis isn’t still a possibility, but it certainly isn’t ‘basically done’ anymore, and the pressure from the former Leicester manager means Ramirez is closer to France than he is to Spain.
The Italian’s admiration for the Middlesbrough playmaker is nothing new, having tried to sign him during his time in England, and Estadio Deportivo state he called Ramirez personally to convince him to join Nantes.
The Spanish outlet do insist that nothing is done yet between Middlesbrough, Nantes and Ramirez, but if Waldemar Kita is intent on pleasing his new manager, that might not take very long.
