Earlier today, we covered claims from the local Sevilla media regarding Julen Lopetegui and his future, or otherwise, at the club.
An article from Diario de Sevilla discussed the La Liga club’s interest in Jorge Sampaoli, and explained that if Jorge Mendes came forward with a new destination, namely Wolves, for Lopetegui then it could help Monchi solve the situation.
The Sevilla manager would be be given a ‘dignified’ exit and would be able to leave without the drama around being sacked. Lopetegui has done well at Sevilla ahead of this season and therefore there’s a desire to avoid a humiliating and protracted ending.
Marca take the situation forward, and claim the manager now has a ‘proposal on the table’ from Wolves, who showed Bruno Lage the door on Sunday.
According to the Spanish newspaper, one of the issues Monchi would be facing with firing Lopetegui is that Sevilla would have to give the manager compensation. In this case that would mean his salary for the rest of the season.
That may not seem a lot in the scheme of things, but Sevilla are known for counting all the Euros. Therefore, if Lopetegui simply moved to Wolves, the Spaniards could save money.
As it stands, the manager is expected to be on the bench for Wednesday’s Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund, unless something big happens in the next few hours.
