Javi Gracia has already spoken to Almeria about a potential return to the club in his first role since leaving Leeds United.
That’s according to Cadena SER, who say the Spanish coach spoke to Almeria about the position before they sacked Vicente Moreno yesterday.
On Wednesday we covered a report that stated Gracia was the early frontrunner for the vacant position, with the club keen on a reunion after a previous successful spell.
Cadena SER now follow that up and say Moreno was sacked this morning after the 5-1 defeat at the weekend, leaving with his staff after the decision was made by the club.
No wins in seven games and the heavy defeat at Sevilla was the straw that broke the camel’s back for the patience of the leadership, and work is already underway to find his replacement.
Their list is currently focused on coaches who know La Liga well and because of that, former Leeds coach Javi Gracia is ‘gaining strength as the hours go by’.
The 53-year-old is free on the market after his departure from Elland Road earlier this year and the first contacts have already been held before Vicente Moreno was sacked.
His profile fits what the club are looking for given his 145 games managing in the Spanish top flight and the fact that his record with them, when he led them from the second division to the top flight, is still fresh in the memory.
A decade after that spell they could now meet again, with them seemingly unconcerned by his disastrous 12 game spell in charge of Leeds last season.
