We’ve tried to actively avoid any stories concerning the two Chelsea left-backs that aren’t called Ben Chilwell, because there’s at least one article a day published on them in Italy.
They rarely have any concrete updates, but Corriere dello Sport on Thursday provide a little something, making it clear Antonio Conte only has one name in mind if he is to strengthen at left-back, and that’s Emerson Palmieri.
The Italy international has only featured once in the Premier League this season, and it’s getting more and more obvious that Frank Lampard isn’t counting on him.
It’s stated Conte ‘hasn’t stopped thinking’ about the Chelsea defender, but his former club aren’t in a mood to be overly generous.
Corriere explain the Blues ‘want to sell him’ and ‘will not accept non-definitive formulas’ for their player.
That’s a rather strong claim, but with the left-back entering the final year of his contract next summer, it’s understandable that Chelsea would have little to gain with a loan deal in January, only for them to have to find him a new club all over again in six months.
Something to keep in mind, but it’s fair to say Palmieri’s days at Stamford Bridge are coming to an end sooner rather than later.
