On Thursday evening, the Scottish media reported Rangers have made contact with former Ajax manager Francesco Farioli, and that discussions have been held about the Italian’s potential appointment.
That wasn’t really mentioned up in Italy – until now. And it doesn’t look good for the Ibrox club, who are still looking for a successor to Barry Ferguson’s caretaker spell.
Tuttomercatoweb report on Farioli’s future and state he’s interested in a move to the Premier League, and would place that above Rangers.
The 36-year-old left Ajax at the end of the season, with a tearful farewell after the Amsterdam club failed to win the title despite very much having it in their grasp a few weeks ago. He wasn’t fired over that, with his reason for departure being a disagreement on style with the Ajax board.
According to TMW, he’s discarded the prospect of taking over at Rangers.
Rather having talks with Rangers, on Thursday evening Farioli was having dinner in Florence. He’s from nearby Lucca, and it’s made clear he’s not specifically in Florence due to local club Fiorentina, and their impending need for a manager, but rather just returning to Tuscany.
