Sweden manager Janne Andersson has told the Swedish media Pontus Jansson could be in line to start the World Cup Qualifier against Belarus this weekend.

The Leeds United star was only expected to make the bench for Saturday’s crucial game, but Sweden defender Victor Lindelof could be ruled out with injury.

Throughout these World Cup qualifiers for Russia 2018 Andersson has selected Lindelof and Andreas Granqvist as his central defence partnership. However, with Lindelof picking up an ankle injury either Leeds United’s Jansson or Bologna’s Filip Helander will be expected to partner Granqvist.

Aftonbladet have reported on Andersson’s press conference in which he said Jansson or Helander will be ideal replacements for Lindelof. The Swede believes Jansson has had a “good season” with Leeds United, but also thinks Helander is capable.

Jansson will be hoping he will get the nod ahead of Helander after stating Sweden’s last game against Hungary in November when he was partnered with both Lindelof and then Granqvist. The 25-year-old has been a key player for Leeds United this season, and he’ll surely be thinking it’s his time for Sweden.
