Maurizio Sarri ‘feels the call of England’ or a ‘far-reaching project’ this summer, opening the door to a possible move to Tottenham.
That’s according to Corriere Dello Sport, who say the Italian manager could now be interested in a return to the Premier League.
Sarri has been regularly named as a potential replacement for Jose Mourinho since he was sacked by Tottenham last month.
At first, it appeared he was a strong candidate for the vacant position, but that quickly died off, with several reports in Italy pretty much dismissing the idea.
That, though, was before Mourinho made a surprise move to Roma, the club where Sarri had looked all but certain to end up this summer.
Since then, there has been a 360-degree turn in the comments, with Tottenham named as the ‘most plausible’ option and the ‘hottest possibility’ over the last week.
The newspaper doesn’t say Tottenham have been in touch or anything of that nature, but they do posit them as an option specifically.
Key to him arriving at the club could be the availability of others, and in that regard, there is one major name seemingly out of the running; Antonio Conte.
He’s been named as another option for Tottenham over the last few weeks, but according to FC Inter News, that’s not on the cards at the minute.
They explain that despite talk of a renewal or a move away, ‘nothing could be further from reality’ as he is yet to meet with Inter president Steven Zhang.
Until that happens and the two discuss their ideas for next season, nothing will be happening in regards to the coaches future.
That could effectively rule him out of the running for Spurs and, in the process, open up the door for Sarri to return to London.
