Barcelona managed to beat Real Betis 3-2 at the weekend, thanks to a late goal from Trincao, but not everything is positive around the Catalan club.
Ronald Araújo was forced off with an ankle injury, and the squad have been left short in central defence. There was something of an inevitability around this, given Barca failed to sign Eric Garcia during the January window.
Garcia’s contract expires at the end of the season and he’s already told Manchester City he won’t be signing a new one. Expected to move to Barcelona as a free agent, Garcia is thought to have been close to making the switch to the Camp Nou in both of the last two windows.
Manchester City weren’t prepared to sell for cut-price last summer, and in January there was indecision at Barca over what to do, with the club’s presidential elections on the way.
Mundo Deportivo have a Monday column from Josep M. Artells, who clearly believes it was a mistake to not agree a deal with Manchester City. He says Barca’s players, Koeman, and the club’s fans have been let down by the transfer failure, and it’s now showing given the injury situation.
There’s nothing Barcelona can do it about it now, so it’s a case of having to make the best of what is available until the next window.
