Sevilla boss Francisco Javier García Pimienta has highlighted exactly why Kelechi Iheanacho hasn’t featured much since arriving from Leicester City, indicating they’re reprogramming the striker.
Mucho Deporte cover comments from the Sevilla boss today in which he explains just why Iheanacho is not currently in his thinking.
The striker joined the Spanish club on a free transfer in the summer after his deal with Leicester
He was warmly welcomed at the time, with many believing that Victor Orta had pulled off something of a coup getting the striker, who had impressed at Leicester in spells and Manchester City before that, on a free transfer ahead of potential competition.
García Pimienta responded to that but another report this week indicated the Sevilla boss didn’t like the former Leicester man at all and could leave him on the bench for the foreseeable future.
García Pimienta has now come out and explained what is going on and how they’ve seen things they don’t like since Iheanacho arrived from Leicester in the summer.
“He came a month later, training individually. He is adapting,” he said.
“The two weeks with the national team did not do him any good. We saw things that he was not right.
“We have to give him confidence. He is a high-level footballer for everything he has done and sooner rather than later we have to see the best version of him. He has the capacity and quality for it.”
