Antonio Conte is ‘thinking’ about a return to the Premier League with Tottenham as they push for his signature.
That’s according to Grand Hotel Calciomercato, the new site for Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio, who say Spurs have an offer on the table for the Italian.
They explain that having said goodbye to Inter Milan, Conte is thinking about the move to Tottenham and taking a few days out to weigh the pros and cons.
In Conte’s mind, one of the big pros in which Tottenham are pushing with ‘conviction’ to secure his signature, with Daniel Levy and co. having told him they want to build a project around the manager and let Conte guide them.
That autonomy attracts the Italian, while the chance to work in facilities that are among the best in the world and a state of the art stadium are also tempting.
Nobody expects the Premier League title, and it’s known he will have to motivate the squad, but that is one of Conte’s major powers.
But it is the quality of the squad that worries him. Looking at the current options, he feels Tottenham are ‘further behind’ than others, and he will need a ‘huge budget’ to make the team competitive at the highest level.
Even now, it is ‘currently being evaluated’ by Tottenham what sort of staff Conte would bring in with him from his time at Inter, with Spurs seemingly limiting it to four.
First, though, they need to convince Conte, who is still trying to find an agreement with the club over his salary.
That is an aspect that should not be underestimated, and it is precisely because of this that he has not said yes to Tottenham as yet.
If he decides to turn down their offer, he could take a sabbatical year instead next season.
