On Tuesday evening, Bild reported FSV Mainz 05’s Jean-Philippe Mateta is set to complete a move to Crystal Palace as the striker travelled to England in a private jet to undergo medical tests with the Eagles.
It was also explained the Premier League side will take the 23-year-old on an 18-month loan deal with an option to buy between €14m and €17m.
These claims have now been backed up Kicker, who state the Frenchman ‘will soon join’ Roy Hodgson’s side.
Mainz are 17th in the table and in the middle of the relegation battle, Kicker state the German club hand their ‘most dangerous man’ to Crystal Palace.
The Bundesliga side suffered a 2-0 defeat against Vfl Wolfsburg on Tuesday and Mateta was left out of the squad for the latest league tie.
Multiple reports have stated the attacker’s absence was due to his impending move to Palace and these claims have now been confirmed by Mainz manager Bo Svensson.
“It is the case that J.P. is currently doing a medical check at Crystal Palace. If everything goes well, which is what we expect, it will be over the line,” Svensson told Sky Deutschland.
Mateta is set to arrive at Selhurst Park after scoring seven goals in 15 league appearances for Mainz this season. He hasn’t scored for the German club since his hat-trick against Freiburg in November.
Over in France, the news has also been confirmed by RMC Sport, who have final details of the deal, claiming it’s an 18 month loan with a ‘near compulsory’ option to buy at €18m.
