Idrissa Gana Gueye is struggling with a knee injury on international duty and it’s creating big news in Senegal.
The Everton player is key for his country’s national team and the news has been taken badly.
SeneNews say the midfielder won’t be available for the match against Madagascara, and it’s called ‘terrible’ news.
National team manager Aliou Cisse is quoted by Senegal7 sounding slightly more hopeful: “Gana is uncertain, he has a sore knee. We will go over it with the doctor but he is uncertain for the match.”
The 28 year old wasn’t in Everton’s squad for the match against Huddersfield Town at the weekend, but was clearly thought to be in good enough shape to join up with the Senegal national team.
Everton will be watching the situation closely, hoping no risks are taken with their player ahead of what is going to be a pressured season for the Premier League club, with expectations once again high.
Gueye had played Everton’s three league matches prior to the Huddersfield game, and is thought to have picked up the injury during the match against Bournemouth ten days ago.
