Former AC Milan boss Siniša Mihajlović, in an interview with Corriere dello Sport, has claimed Chelsea tried to sign Alessio Romagnoli during the summer transfer window.
Romagnoli, who has established himself as a key player for AC Milan, was linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in the last transfer window, and Mihajlović, who had left the club by that point, says an attempt was made.
The former manager was explaining some disagreements he’d had with Silivio Berlusconi, and said: “He didn’t want to take Romagnoli for €25m. Honestly at that time that figure was high.”
Mihajlović then added that Romagnoli had turned into a super purchase: “…so much so that this year Chelsea offered almost double to buy him.”
Still only 21, Romagnoli has already made four appearances for the Italian national team, and it wouldn’t really be surprising if Chelsea revive their interest in the youngster in the upcoming transfer windows.
Antonio Conte is well aware of his abilities, and with Chelsea in the market for a defender, it could make sense.
