The technical manager of NEC has told the Dutch media talks with RC Genk attacker Ayub Masika are in full swing. It’s been widely reported in Holland if Masika does sign for the Dutch side this summer it would allow Leeds United linked Anthony Limbombe to leave the club.
Speaking to Voetbal International, Danny Hoekman was asked about NEC’s plans for the transfer window. Hoekman confirmed talks to sign Masika were looking positive despite some early setbacks.
Hoekman said they have been following the Kenyan for some time, and that he’s a player they greatly admire.
“The sense on both sides is positive. Financially it is a difficult for NEC, but we keep trying. We have followed Masika for a long time. He is a winger that can play on both flanks, with fine feet,” said Hoekman.
If NEC are successful in their pursuit of Masika this would allow Limbombe to leave the club in this transfer window. The Belgian attacker has been strongly linked with Leeds United in the past 12 months, following the Championship side’s offer for the 21-year-old being rejected last summer.
However, even though Leeds United’s offer was rejected it’s recently been reported they are still keen to sign him.
