According to reports in the Italian media, AC Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso wants Everton target Andrea Bertolacci to renew his contract with the Serie A side.

In the past 24 hours the AC Milan midfielder has been linked with a move to Everton, following claims the Premier League side were closing in on the player. It was stated the Toffees are ‘ready to close’ the signing.

Sky Italia have reported this afternoon, via Pianeta Milan that Gattuso is keen to keep Bertolacci at the San Siro, and he wants the 27 year old to extend his contract beyond next summer.

Bertolacci spent last season on loan at Genoa, so Gattuso is now getting his first to see the player in training.

The AC Milan boss has reportedly been surprised by a player deemed surplus to requirements and subsequently will try to block a move to either Genoa or England.

We covered reports Everton are looking to get a deal done for Bertolacci and had offered a five year contract, with salary of €2m plus bonuses. It was also reported Everton were looking to pay €6m.
