Morocco’s incoming coach Walid Regragui has advised Hakim Ziyech to leave Chelsea this summer to ensure himself a place at the World Cup in Qatar.
That’s according to Moroccan outlet Media 90, who say the coach wants to have the forward as part of his squad.
They explain that Ziyech had decided to retire from international duty due to his ongoing dispute with coach Vahid Halilhodzic.
His relationship with Halilhodzic had ‘worsened’ to the point of Ziyech not wanting to play for his country but the Bosnian’s recent dismissal has changed the situation.
He is set to be replaced by Regragui, who has already ‘called on’ Ziyech to leave Chelsea and join another team before the end of the window.
He’s ‘advised’ the player to do so because he wants him as a key part of his squad but wants the forward to be ‘fully prepared and highly competitive’ going into the tournament.
That’s something he is unlikely to be if he remains at Chelsea, where he has struggled to establish himself under Thomas Tuchel since his arrival at Stamford Bridge.
Thus, he is now seemingly pushing for a move, which may explain why there has been a sudden influx of reports about a potential return to Ajax or even a move across London to Tottenham.
