Before Casemiro became a Manchester United player in the summer, there was a brief period of time when the Red Devils were chasing Adrien Rabiot.

The Frenchman was reportedly seen as an alternative for Frenkie de Jong, and a deal had been agreed with Juventus regarding a transfer.

Then came negotiations for a contract at Manchester Untied, which is when everyone started saying that Rabiot’s mother and agent, Véronique, was asking for excessive wage demands to allow her son to move to the north of England.

The deal eventually fell through, with the Premier League side moving onto the aforementioned Brazilian, who showed his worth at the weekend when he scored a deserved late equaliser against Chelsea.

Over in Italy, Rabiot has returned in the starting line-up at Juventus, where he is liked by Max Allegri, who, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, ‘breathed a sigh of relief’ when the talks with Manchester United collapsed.

The deal ‘would have been good for the Juventus coffers’, but it wasn’t one the manager particularly wanted to see go through, as he had previously shown his favour for the six-time Ligue 1 winner.

Rabiot, down his end, has a contract in Turin expiring in the summer, which is why Gazzetta say ‘the renewal would be convenient’ for the Serie A side, but his mother Véronique is ‘unlikely to accept’.

Therefore, we can all expect Rabiot, who has won six Ligue 1 titles with Paris Saint-Germain, to be a free agent in the summer, regardless of what Allegri wants, perhaps giving Manchester United another chance at signing if Erik ten Hag is still interested by that point.
