Javi Gracia’s reputation in Spain sky-rocketed during his time at Watford.

The manager impressed many back home with his early success with the Premier League club and the way things ended hasn’t damaged Gracia’s stock.

The Spanish reaction to his dismissal was an acceptance that this is just the way Watford work, and he probably did well to be in the post for as long as he was.

That it was Quique Sánchez Flores who replaced him, for his second stint in charge of the Hornets, further underlined that for a Spanish audience.

Since the exit, Gracia has been repeatedly linked with taking over at La Liga clubs, and there’s already been several managers sacked this season.

El Desmarque report Fran Escribá’s position at Celta Vigo is under threat, and Gracia would be the ‘most attractive’ option to replace him. The worry for Celta would be competition elsewhere, due to the manager’s ‘two successful seasons’ at Watford.

Today saw Mauricio Pellegrino leave Leganes, although that option, with the club bottom of the table, wouldn’t be as attractive as Celta.
