Morgan Sanson isn’t yet officially an Aston Villa player, but for three days the transfer has been seen as done by the French media.

Marseille needed a sale during the current transfer window, as, like others, they struggle from the financial impact of Covid-19. In France things have been even worse, with TV rights deals collapsing and subsequent payments being under threat.

Choosing to pitch Sanson to the English market was no surprise from Marseille, given they’ve flirted with the idea for some time. Aston Villa were the grateful recipients, yet it’s clear Andre Villas Boas hasn’t been pleased with the process.

Last week the manager spoke to the French media about a ‘very weak’ offer from the Premier League club, yet Marseille then decided to sell for not a great deal more.

Monday’s edition of L’Equipe reports Villas Boas is annoyed about a mole within the Ligue 1 club, someone who is leaking information to RMC.

According to the newspaper, the Portuguese coach is angry after RMC were informed before him that Sanson was being sold to Aston Villa. Villas Boas had wanted the player in his team at the weekend, but with the move agreed, the midfielder didn’t want to risk getting injured.
