Manchester United reportedly looked at Mauricio Pochettino after parting ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last November.

The Red Devils struggled to take the Argentine away from Paris Saint-Germain before then appointing Ralf Rangnick as their interim manager until the end of this season.

The German will start working as a consultant at Old Trafford from the summer and the Premier League side must appoint a new permanent manager for the next campaign.

Pochettino continues to be in frame for that job as Sport explain the Manchester club are still ‘interested in him’. However, the ex-Tottenham Hotspur manager isn’t keen and has ‘already turned down’ United. That’s because the the 49-year-old ‘waits for Real Madrid’.

Carlo Ancelotti is currently in charge at the Bernabéu and the La Liga side could relieve him from his duties if they fail to win silverware this season.

Los Blancos are leading the league table and are six points ahead of second place Sevilla. They need to overcome a 1-0 deficit against PSG to make it to the Champions League quarter-final.

Pochettino is aware that without success, he will not continue in Paris beyond this season. For now, he is ‘very attentive’ to what the Spanish giants are doing and the opportunity to manage them may arise if Ancelotti is shown the exit door.

To sum it up, Sport’s report indicates the South American has rejected Manchester United and is waiting for Real Madrid.
