Former Belgium manager Georges Leekens has urged Anderlecht youngster Youri Tielemans to leave the Belgian side in the summer. The 19-year-old has been linked with a move to Everton, with that being a popular destination choice in Belgium.

Voetbal Nieuws have reported on comments the Algeria coach made when asked about Tielemans future. Leekens believes it wouldn’t be a good career move to remain at Anderlecht for another season, and a transfer should be considered in the next window.

However, the Belgian said Serie A would be a better move for the youngster rather than the Premier League, although he thinks the worst case scenario would be to head to China.

“I think it would be bad if he stays for one more year in Brussels. I would also prefer him to move to the Italian league rather then play in the Premier League. I advise him not to go to China, as he is still too young,” said Leekens.

Tielemans has been linked with Everton for the past few years despite no reports of any approach or bid being made by the Merseyside club. However, the midfielder has been quizzed on a move to Everton this year, and responded positively.

At this stage of his career Tielemans needs to be playing regular football, and the Belgium international recognises playing for a club like Everton could provide him with this.

Former Anderlecht boss Marc Degryse has also advised Tielemans to join Everton over a move to one of the major clubs in Europe as he believes Ronald Koeman can give him the ideal stage to develop.
