Rafael Benitez’s contract at Newcastle United will expire at the end of the season and so far the manager hasn’t signed an extension at St James’ Park.

The former Liverpool boss spoke to Radio Marca and explained a “series of conditions have to be met” for him to continue with the Premier League outfit.

On April 23rd, we carried a report from Gazzetta dello Sport, who explained that AC Milan’s Gennaro Gattuso could replace the Spaniard at the Tyneside club, if the latter decides to leave the Magpies.

It was also reported that super agent Jorge Mendes brought up the possibility of managing Newcastle when the two met for a dinner in Italy.

Tutto Mercato Web takes a look at the situation and explains that Gattuso is likely to be shown the exit door at San Siro. This is because his current employer have set their sights as high as possible and to achieve their targets, they believe it is important for them to appoint a top tier coach.

This was also confirmed by Gattuso during an interview with Rai Sport. He said, “Mendes? We see each other often. I like good food and to talk about football. Newcastle? Unfounded voices. With Mendes, there is only great friendship.”
