Romelu Lukaku is on the verge of joining Inter Milan and the striker has arrived in Italy to complete his transfer to the San Siro from Manchester United.

The Belgian’s departure leaves Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Alexis Sanchez as the three recognised players who can play up front.

This could force the Red Devils to bring in a replacement for Lukaku. According to Sky Italia, United are back in for Juventus’ Mario Mandzukic.

It’s claimed ‘new contacts’ are expected today between the Premier League side and the Old Lady for ‘white smoke’.

United will ‘try to find’ an agreement with the Croatian for the transfer.

Manchester United can make signings until 5pm on Thursday, which is why it’s a ‘race against time’ for them to sign the 33-year-old.

Sky Italia’s report states that if United fail to sign Mandzukic, Fernando Llorente is considered an alternative. The striker is available on a free transfer after Tottenham Hotspur released him at the end of the season.
