André Gomes has started in 10 games in all competitions for Barcelona and his’s future now lies away from Camp Nou.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Portuguese international has emerged as a one of transfer targets for Lazio. The Serie A outfit has identified Gomes as a potential candidate to replace Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, if the latter leaves Rome.
The Serbian star midfielder is wanted by host of top clubs across Europe and the list includes the likes of Juventus, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain. The Turin club have already negotiated with the player and reached an agreement with Milinkovic-Savic, so say Mundo.
However, the report also states Jose Mourinho’s side and the Ligue 1 winners are the two clubs who made the ‘best offer directly’ to Lazio for Milinkovic-Savic. Should the midfielder leave his current employers, then Lazio will be in the market for a replacement.
Lazio manager Simone Inzaghi believes Gomes could be a ‘perfect replacement’ for the Serbian international because of the Barcelona midfielder’s physical attributes and technical abilities. A potential sale of Milinkovic-Savic could see Lazio raise a lot of money and use those funds to sign Gomes and other players.
Gomes’ lack of playing time at the Catalan club saw him fail to make it to the Portugal squad for the World Cup. Lazio sporting director Igli Tare wants to take advantage of the situation while negotiating his price tag with Barcelona.
This all feels like a Catalan newspaper convincing themselves Milinkovic-Savic is moving (not a hard one to believe) and that Lazio will then swoop for Gomes to replace him (much harder to believe), thereby solving a problem for Barcelona.
