We’ve found the most ridiculous story you will read all day. We can guarantee that.
In and out of the team despite being captain, much has been made since the start of the season about José Mourinho’s relationship with Wayne Rooney at Manchester United, yet the England striker still seems to be quite happy with everything.
Playing a lot better than he has been known to in recent times, you could maybe forgive Rooney for not leaving the club he has been at for 10 years, especially when he is oh so close to breaking Bobby Charlton’s goalscoring record.
That there is some interest from China, we can believe, but that he has been offered around to a bunch of clubs around Europe, including Napoli, we cannot.
This is what Italian intermediary Vincenzo Morabito apparently told Radio CRC on Thursday afternoon, relayed by SpazioNapoli.
He said: “Rooney wants a change of air. There have been great offers from China, but he doesn’t want to go east. I know for a fact that he was offered to Napoli as he can’t go to other English clubs, which could lead him to Spain and Italy. He was, I repeat, offered to Napoli.
“While the idea is beautiful, reality isn’t when you look at his €10m/year salary. He certainly doesn’t have a good relationship with Mourinho, and therefore his future is far from United, even on loan, to give them more room.”
We don’t buy it, especially considering the player still has more than two years on his contract.
Why Manchester United would offer him around knowing he won’t take a wage cut is beyond us, and his ability to play up front or further back is something Mourinho is clearly keen to use, considering Rooney has already made 21 appearances this season.
Sure, he hasn’t scored a lot, but then again, apart from Zlatan Ibrahimovic (14), no one has more than five goals for the Premier League club in all competitions this season.
