German football magazine Kicker reckon RB Leipzig’s Ralf Rangnick is currently ‘wrestling’ to complete the signing of Dayot Upamecano from RB Salzburg.
Despite having a verbal agreement, it’s stated that Manchester United and Barcelona are Rangnick’s opponents. Whilst both the RBs have agreed, and even Upamecano’s agent has spoken about the impending transfer, Kicker reckon that until the paperwork is finalised, Manchester United and Barcelona are still prepared to try and hijack the transfer.
In all honesty, this sounds like an attempt to make a very mundane transfer much more exciting than it actually is. Upamecano is going from one RB club to another, and that’s probably not dramatic enough.
Manchester United were linked before Jose Mourinho took over at the club, and came very close to signing the player before he joined the RB group, but things are quite different now.
Upamecano will want assurances over prominence that RB Leipzig will be willing to give and it would take a huge twist for the player to end up anywhere else this month.
