We’re bored of Mauro Icardi, and, for once, it isn’t because he’s the centre of attention of the rumour mill.
No, we’re bored of him because every single day, the major Italian newspapers dedicate at least three pages to his situation at Inter, which, while important, only makes it worse than it already is.
On the transfer side of things, it’s been relatively calm, but Leggo, feeling it was maybe a little bit too quiet, decided to make some noise on Tuesday.
The Milan edition of the newspaper stir things up a bit by claiming Manchester United and Real Madrid (this is the moment where you pretend to be shocked) are keeping an eye on matters, and maybe a little bit more.
According to them, the Red Devils ‘are said to be ready to give up one of either Marcus Rashford (very unlikely) or Romelu Lukaku (far more likely)’ in order to make room for Mauro Icardi at Old Trafford.
As for Real Madrid, the obvious loser in any transfer would be Karim Benzema.
Now, we aren’t normally ones to be party poopers (actually, who are we kidding, we really are) but are we really willing to believe that Manchester United, a club longing for stability after five and a half years of uncertainty, would be prepared to spend upwards of €70m on a striker who has caused more problems off the pitch for Inter than he has solved on it?
There’s no denying that Icardi is a talented goalscorer, but what he would also likely bring is drama and that’s the last thing those in charge at Old Trafford will want.
Had José Mourinho somehow stuck around, maybe we’d be willing to believe it just a little bit, but with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanting to make Marcus Rashford the centrepiece of his plans, we doubt someone like Argentine will be signed anytime soon.
