Earlier today, Marca editor José Félix Díaz reported that Real Madrid have ‘authorised’ Raphaël Varane and his agent to negotiate with Manchester United, and come to an agreement.
Los Blancos are of the belief the defender will not sign an extension as he enters his final year of contract.
Mundo Deportivo provides their own stance on the 28-year-old’s situation and states the Red Devils ‘want to sign him’.
The centre-back’s future is still ‘unknown’ as he wants to have a conversation with Carlo Ancelotti before making a final decision. As things stand, he doesn’t want to renew with the La Liga side, which is why they have made him available in the market.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have an interest in the France international and will ‘soon begin contacts’ with the Spanish capital club.
The current positions of both clubs are ‘very far apart’ because Real Madrid want €70m for the France international so that they can use those funds to help them in signing Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappé.
United, however, don’t want to pay more than €45m, out of which ‘€5m would be in variables’.
Marca believe Madrid could settle for around €50m.
This makes it a ‘complicated negotiation’ between the La Liga side and United, and Mundo add the possibility of Varane signing a new contract at Real Madrid is ‘not ruled out’.
