Manchester United were credited with an interest in Villarreal star Pau Torres in the last two summer windows.
The Red Devils decided against signing the Spain international and ended up taking Raphaël Varane and Lisandro Martínez in 2021 and 2022 respectively. The duo are currently the first-choice centre-back pairing at Old Trafford.
Torres, on the other hand, continues to be named as a target for Manchester United. The La Liga side managed to retain him, but that may no longer be possible after this season.
The defender’s current deal runs down in 2024. Without a renewal, he will enter the final year of his contract next summer, when Villarreal will be forced to negotiate his sale for less than his €65m release clause.
That’s according to La Razón, who explain that this is something that Erik ten Hag’s side and others will try to take advantage of.
Unai Emery’s man was already an option for Manchester United in the last window and the report adds the Premier League side will ‘return to the fray’ for him next summer.
