In case any Manchester United fans are watching Tottenham Hotspur’s attempt to sign Luis Diaz from Porto and wondered why the Red Devils haven’t moved for the winger, this is the time for a little bit of hope.
There’s a bit of a consensus in Portugal that the player doesn’t want to move to Spurs, and as local newspapers today talk about other potential destinations for the 25-year-old, Old Trafford is seriously considered.
Newspaper Record features a headline saying ‘English threat until the end’, claiming there’s a ‘real possibility’ the Red Devils could make a bid before the end of the January transfer window.
It’s said this is a scenario which would please Diaz more than a transfer to Tottenham. The outlet claims the player dreams of the Premier League, and wants a club who fight for the title and features constantly in the Champions League.
Record says Manchester United are ‘truly in the play’, as they had a scout watching Diaz featuring for Porto at the weekend.
It’s said they certainly ‘enriched their dossier’, as the winger scored a goal and had a good performance.
The newspaper points out there’s now a vacant spot in the Red Devils’ squad, following Anthony Martial’s departure to Sevilla, and says an offer for the Colombian to join the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot would be ‘more attractive’ than his possibility of signing for Tottenham.
It’s said Porto would consider an offer from Manchester United as long as they put on the table more than Spurs, who bid €45m plus €10m in bonuses, as that attempt was ‘far from convincing’ the Dragons.
