The Bruno Fernandes saga has been back from the dead this week, and it turns out the situation is said to be as hot as during the end of the Premier League transfer window, when Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur were repeatedly linked.
All Portuguese newspapers agree Sporting are currently trying to negotiate the midfielder’s sale in Monaco. Since officials from several clubs are there for the Champions League and Europa League draws, it was a good opportunity for agent Jorge Mendes to work his magic.
And newspaper Record comes up with a very interesting story today, claiming that Sporting and Mendes have a ‘practically closed’ deal for Fernandes’ sale.
It’s claimed that some clubs are interested in signing the player for €70m and only taking him in a year. He would move in the summer of 2020, when he’ll be 25.
Despite all the confidence about a transfer, Record doesn’t say the clubs who are interested in this deal. All they write is that there’s ‘more than one’.
Since €70m has always been the price demanded by Sporting, we see no reason why a club from a league which has the transfer window open would pay that much and wait for an year.
So in case the claims are true, it would make sense that a Premier League side who can’t sign him now would wait until next summer.
Manchester United and Tottenham are both mentioned because of their alleged attempts to sign Fernandes in the past, but there’s no claim whether or not Ed Woodward or Daniel Levy are involved in these new negotiations.
