Close to signing for Tottenham last summer, Milan Škriniar eventually ended up staying at Inter, where he helped the club win the Serie A title this season.
The 26-year-old was a regular in Antonio Conte’s system, making 32 appearances in the league alone, and yet he’s one of the few who could be sacrificed this summer as the owners look to sell at least one big player to balance the books.
Leggo are the ones reporting it, claiming both Manchester United and Tottenham are interested in Škriniar.
The newspaper explain that while Conte has a select few he isn’t interested in letting go, there is an ‘openness to sacrifice’ one of either the Slovakian or Stefan de Vrij, with the former ‘more so’ than the latter, whose profile is unique in the squad.
Both are valued at around €60m, a fee that would ‘guarantee oxygen and capital gains’ for Suning, who own Inter, meaning they are ‘therefore sellable’.
That Manchester United want a centre-back is no secret, with neither Victor Lindelöf nor Eric Bailly convincing alongside Harry Maguire, and Škriniar would definitely provide the experience and stability needed next to the England international.
As for Tottenham in all this, the Slovakian will have been partly a José Mourinho target, who wanted him back when he was at Old Trafford as well, meaning the new manager, whoever he might be, could focus on other targets depending on how he wants to play.
For now, though, it’s €60m for Škriniar, who will be on the more expensive side of the lists currently in place in London and the North West of England.
