Back in February, Manchester United and Liverpool were both linked to Bordeaux forward Malcom. As these clubs are normally said to be scouting dozens of players every week, the story didn’t make much noise in Europe, but it was quite different in Brazil.
To this day, the local press still believe Manchester United are indeed interested in Malcom, and that’s what a headline from ESPN makes clear. The interview recalls the youngster’s entire career, but concentrates on European football, and they’ve mentioned interest from Roma and Manchester United.
In a response to this subject, the player told Gazeta Esportiva: “Even when I was at Corinthians these rumours were already happening.”
“I have a calm mind about that. I have a focused thought on the pitch and I leave it to my agent and my family to take care of. Then, who knows, if a bid comes up I’ll think of leaving, but now I’ll just playing football”.
When selling him for €5m to Bordeaux last year, Corinthians still managed to keep 50% of the player’s rights, so the Brazilian club are hopeful he will be sold for good money in the future.
Despite claiming the player is on Manchester United’s radar, there’s no new information from ESPN or Gazeta Esportiva regarding talks or offers. Malcom, 20 years of age, will likely need a jump in quality to convince Jose Mourinho to make a firm move for him.
