“I would be crazy if I left Real Madrid”.
Those were the exact words uttered by Alvaro Morata relayed by Eurosport in Italy minutes after winning the Champions League with Real Madrid less than a week ago.
Fast forward to today, and everything is pointing towards a transfer to Manchester United.
Early on Friday afternoon, reports emerged from the English press that the Spaniard had agreed terms with the Red Devils, and all that was standing in the way of a transfer was an agreement between the two sides.
Around an hour later, Marca in Spain have come out and said that Morata’s agent spoke to Real Madrid this morning to let them know his client would be looking for a transfer in the summer in order to get more minutes.
Spending more time on the La Liga champions’ bench than he originally wanted last season, the Spain international still managed to outscore Karim Benzema in all competitions, showing the world he knows exactly where the goal is.
According to the Spanish newspaper, Mourinho himself tried to convince Morata that moving to Old Trafford was what’s best for him, and have now overtaken AC Milan in the race to sign him.
COPE also joined in on the action on Friday, with journalist Juan Carlos Xuancar tweeting the news.
The news that José Mourinho wanted Morata emerged back in April, with Cadena Ser the first to report it, and Marca confirming it later, with claims Mourinho called the player back then too.
