With both Stefan De Vrij and Keita Baldé likely to leave Stadio Olimpico in the summer, Lazio are doing their best to keep the remainder of their squad.
Lucas Biglia is expected to sign a new contract with the Serie A squad, an announcement likely to follow last week’s news that Sergej Milinkovic-Savic will be ‘staying’ with Lazio until 2022 after signing an improved deal.
The Serbian midfielder had been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League after a great second season in Italy, with Manchester United put forward as one of his likely destinations, with Mourinho following him with ‘great attention’.
Yet, even with the new deal, Lazio could still end up selling the 22-year-old, as explained by Il Tempo over Easter weekend, who reported a bid of €60-70 million would be enough to convince Claudio Lotito to enter discussions regarding his starlet.
This followed claims José Mourinho had sent a scout to watch the midfielder in their 3-0 loss to Napoli last weekend, as he looks to bolster his Old Trafford midfield for the 2017-18 campaign.
The Portuguese manager is likely to change things up over the upcoming transfer window, especially up front, but the arrival of one or two more midfielders, to replace the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and (potentially) Michael Carrick, shouldn’t be excluded either.
Whether Mourinho decides to throw €60m+ at Lazio for Milinkovic-Savic remains to be seen, however, as other targets could be available for less with plenty of contracts around Europe running out in 2018.
