Selling Romelu Lukaku and loaning out Alexis Sánchez without replacing them, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left his squad rather light up front, with just Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial as the ‘experienced’ strikers at the club.

Mason Greenwood, whom the Norwegian highly rates, has been the backup, and injuries to the aforementioned pair made life difficult for Manchester United over the past week or so, where the need for more cover up top has become close to urgent.

Obviously, nothing can be done until January, and even then, finding the right man midway through the season isn’t ideal.

One of the targets over the summer, at least according to many reports, was Lyon’s Moussa Dembélé, and Le10 Sport in France claim United still haven’t let go of him, as the interest remains.

They state the Premier League side are ‘systematically observing’ the forward’s performances for the Ligue 1 club this season, and while he might have been ‘one of the names’ on their list last year, he would now be ‘one of their priorities’.

Bought for €22m from Celtic, Dembélé, at least according to the website, would probably be worth near ‘double’ that these days.

Since the start of the season, the 23-year-old has scored six goals in seven league games, finding the back of the net on average every 97 minutes.

Just the kind of player Manchester United need these days, to be honest.
