Despite everything going very quiet regarding Ivan Perisic to Manchester United the moment Anthony Martial was mentioned as potentially being part of the deal, the story could once again reemerge.
Even if it’s barely mentioned in Monday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian newspaper explain that talks between the two clubs are still ongoing for the Croatia international, even if, at this stage, Luciano Spalletti sees his star winger as ‘untouchable’.
However, one thing that could tip the balance is the Frenchman being included in the transfer, and the outlet state: “There is still belief José Mourinho will insist on having him [Perisic] even if it means losing Anthony Martial for a season.”
In order to achieve this, Manchester United would need to match Inter’s initial request, which was €55m.
The longer this goes on, the harder it’ll be for the Serie A side to replace Ivan Perisic, and that’s what Spalletti, who wants to take his new club back to its former glories, seems to fear the most, hence the insistence on getting Martial as a stop gap for one season.
In the grand scheme of things, letting Anthony Martial go on loan (without a view to buy) and get regular football at Inter isn’t the worst idea, especially if it means he comes back a better player, yet it still seems very unlikely.
The clock is ticking.
