The Bastian Schweinsteiger situation at Manchester United is a bit of an odd one.
Over the past few days, the former German international was reportedly sent to play with the reserves, on his birthday of all days, and his brother took to Twitter to seemingly criticise José Mourinho and his lack of respect.
Since then, talk of an exit has been rather rife, and Bayern board members and players made it clear they’d happily have him back if the opportunity did arise.
Well, in Italy, reports are a bit different, with a few Serie A clubs apparently monitoring the situation, including Lazio, according to Corriere dello Sport.
The Italian newspaper claim the German midfielder is an option for the club, but there are a few obstacles along the way.
The big one happens to be the player’s wages, which Lazio can only dream of matching, meaning that if a move were to happen, Manchester United would have to be kind enough to help them out.
Not only that, but the player would also have to lower his current demands, because £100k/week post tax is a bit much for a Serie A team.
One thing that might make it all easier is that Schweinsteiger apparently ‘dreams of Italy’, so, you know, there’s that.
It would be nice if someone could clarify the player’s situation down United’s end, but we guess we’ll find out soon enough when the season starts.
That’s if he’s still there, of course.
