Gazzetta dello Sport have an article on Wednesday which prompted scrunched faces at Sport Witness throughout.
The grand old Italian newspaper say Manchester United have returned with their interest for Ivan Perisic.
Several clubs are said to be keen on the Croatian international, ‘specifically Atletico Madrid and Manchester United’.
Everything is at an initial stage right now with both clubs said to have made ‘exploratory surveys’ over the signing. Inter Milan don’t rule an exit out, either now or in the summer, and are ready to act should they need to.
Despite everything being at the beginning of a transfer chase, Gazzetta insist the ‘movements are concrete’ and therefore can’t be ignored. There’s no offers yet, but the suggestion is that it could happen in the near future.
Perisic moving to Old Trafford now makes less sense than it ever did.
He turns 30 years of age in just over a week and certainly isn’t having one of his best seasons. Jose Mourinho was the big backer of the transfer and he’s now departed, instead telling other managers where they’re going wrong from his new role as a pundit.
Playing mainly on the left he’d be in direct competition with Anthony Martial, who is enjoying a whole new Manchester romance right now, with his agent last week explaining a renewal is on the way.
Atletico interest doesn’t make a great deal of sense either, because they’re struggling as it is to find room in the wage bill for Alvaro Morata.
Maybe in the summer the rojiblancos would be keen, but probably not United.
