Manchester United’s potential pursuit for Sevilla defender Jules Koundé suddenly became a hot topic in the Spanish sports media today.
It was first AS who reported that with the Red Devils’ problems in defence, there’s now ‘fear’ at the La Liga side that the Premier League side could aim for the 22-year-old.
It’s believed that Manchester United have the resources to trigger Koundé’s €80m release clause, and since Sevilla won’t be able to block that, it’d be a matter of the player choosing to go or not.
Now we get to see a similar story coming from ABC de Sevilla. They’re another one claiming the Red Devils have ‘set their sights’ on the signing for the January market.
Their piece first recalls that Chelsea tried to sign Koundé back in the summer with a €50m bid. Sevilla demanded the amount of his release clause back then and will continue to do so, especially because of how hard it would be to find a replacement in the January window.
The outlet writes it’s not the first time Manchester United look at the player, and with the recent issues at the club, especially Varane’s injury, they now ‘reactivate’ their interest and could ‘accelerate’ Koundé’s goodbye from Sevilla.
Since the price is set, it’s just a matter of convincing the player and paying the fee.
