Ole Gunnar Solskjær might have suffered his first defeat as Manchester United manager, but that isn’t stopping the club, and him, from thinking about the future.
According to Walfoot in Belgium, the Red Devils will be sending a scout to watch Club Brugge vs RB Salzburg on Thursday evening, and there’s a couple of players the talent spotter could be keeping an eye on.
One could be defensive midfielder Diadie Samassekou, who would give Manchester United extra depth at a position where they really only have Nemanja Matic.
The 22-year-old’s stock has increased considerably over the past couple of seasons, and although he signed a new contract last August, this could be the summer where the Austrian side reluctantly cash in.
The other option for the scout, and this could be at Solskjær’s personal behest, is Erling Håland.
While there’s likely zero chance of Manchester United signing the Norwegian starlet in the summer since he only arrived in Austria in January, it wouldn’t be surprising if the current interim manager at Old Trafford wanted to keep tabs on his former protégé.
The youngster was a regular under Solskjær last season at Molde, scoring 12 goals in 25 appearances in the Eliteserien as well as picking up four assists, which earned him obvious links to the Red Devils before Salzburg swooped in and snapped him up for a rather measly £4.5m.
The young striker, who has yet to make an official appearance for his new club (they’re on a winter break), did travel to Brugge and if there is a chance he’ll play, he’ll probably have let his old manager know, recently revealing they still spoke on the phone ‘now and then’.
