Manchester United and Liverpool are looking at signing RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano.

The Red Devils were linked with the centre-back in the last window and responding to the summer links, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted he and his side can see the defender “close up” when United face the German side in the Champions League group stage tie later today.

Upamecano will come face to face with Marcus Rashford on Wednesday and according to Bild, it’s ‘possible that both will play together next season’ at Old Trafford.

United ‘already had an eye’ on the centre-back in the summer. Their scout even closely ‘observed’ the Frenchman in action during Leipzig’s 3-0 cup win over Nürnberg in September.

Meanwhile, the Liverpool will look to bring in a new player in the heart of the back four after losing Virgil van Dijk to a serious injury. The report states the Reds ‘are also interested’ in the 22-year-old.

Upamecano has a €50m clause that will come into effect in 2021, and Bild adds ‘thanks to the release clause’, he can change clubs next year.

Whether he will join United, Liverpool or another club remains to be seen.
